HOW TO PROPERLY ATTACH GTR'S TO YOUR TRAPS

ACCURACY - GTR's release time varies over the temperature range stated in the chart below. One day releases have a variability of 6 hours between hash marks. All other time durations have a variability of 12 hours between hash marks. The hash mark on the left represents the actual release time at the temperature above the hash mark. For instance, an A4 will release at 24 hours at 53F. At the right hash mark, 59F, it will release at 18 hr. For a 2 day B4, the GTR will release at 48 hr. at 46F and at 36 hr. for the temp above the right hash mark, 57F. For temperatures between the hash marks, release times can be approximated. In the event GTR release timing is longer than desired, the releases can be "burned off" by pre-soaking them to corrode off the extra hours. Do not place a full bag of releases in a small bucket of salt water, as the chemical reaction will increase the water temperature thereby altering the corrosion rate.

RIGGING OF THE GTR:
For any application, the GTR must be attached with non-metallic material. The use of uncoated wire, or allowing the GTR to come in contact with the pot's unprotected metal parts, will affect the corrosion rate. It is suggested that twine, plastic hooks, plastic cable ties, or plastic coated wire twists be used to rig the GTR.
EFFECT ON THE POT AND FLOAT:
A float being held underwater will tend to lighten the end of the trap where it is attached. Keep this in mind to prevent your pots from moving around. When foam floats or air-filled floats are used underwater, they will be compressed by water pressure. The compression increases as the depth increases. It is important to make sure whatever float is used won't be crushed by the water pressure and lose its buoyancy. Hard plastic floats do not readily compress and can be used when rigging your GTR at greater depths.
SALINITY:
GTR'S are designed for use in salt water. Brackish water will make the GTR corrode slower than normal.
WATER TEMPERATURES:
The corrosion rate of GTR's is temperature dependent. Try to determine the water temperature at the depth the GTR is being used at to insure reliable performance.

Step 1. Attach cinch line with loop on one end to trap. Make sure that the length of the cinch line is less than the distance between the coil of float line and the attachment point of the float line on the trap. This will assure that the cinch line restrains the float and coil line in place. Otherwise the coil of line will slip. Step 2. Coil float line making at least three small coils at the float end. These small coils will tighten around the cinch line when tensioned by the float and hold the coil of float line in place.
Step 3. Bend open one eye on the GTR. Step 4. Pass loop on cinch line through un-opened eye on GTR.
Step 5. Pass cinch line through and around all coils of float line, then hook end of cinch line loop into opened GTR eye. Step 6. Cinch line tightened around eye on GTR. Trap is now ready to be set. Float, line and cinch will remain this way until GTR releases.
