POT
HAULER SPECIFICATIONS
*Note: Adjusted HP is the actual HP
amount that gets transferred from the motor to the pinch plate.
Dead lift in lbs. is more with smaller line (3/16") due to line riding
closer to hub which provides more torque. Larger line (1/2") rides higher
in the groove where slightly less torque is available. Spacers are available to
allow haulers to accept up to 1" line. Weights shown on dead lift are shown
for informational purposes only - should you choose to use 3/16 line on a 1 HP
60:1 please note on the chart below that it will haul up to 435 lbs. Use line
that is strong enough to handle the load you are pulling.

AMP
DRAW ON THE 3/4 HP MOTOR WITH NO LOAD IS BETWEEN 30-34, AND UP TO 80
WITH A HEAVY LOAD. BREAKERS ARE NOT INCLUDED ON MOTORS. SHOULD YOU PLAN
ON RUNNING YOUR HAULERS TO THE LIMIT WE RECOMMEND INSTALLING ONE TO
PREVENT BURNING UP YOUR MOTOR. CHOOSING A HIGHER REDUCTION WILL DROP AMP
DRAW AND PROLONG MOTOR LIFE. GEAR BOXES ARE CONSTRUCTED FROM BRONZE AND
HARDENED STEEL PRODUCTS FOR LONG LIFE. APPLYING A COAT OF EPOXY PAINT TO
UNITS IS RECOMMENDED TO PREVENT WATER/CONDENSATION DAMAGE & CORROSION.
MANUFACTURER WARRANTY 1 YEAR ON MANUFACTURERS DEFECTS 90 DAYS ON MOTORS (NOT INCLUDING WATER DAMAGE) NO COVERAGE ON DAMAGE CAUSED BY NEGLECT, MISUSE, OR ABUSE. |
WARNING
This motor is not waterproof!
We at Blue Ocean Tackle WILL
NOT be held responsible for motors that have water damage.
If the motor is exposed to the elements, IT IS IMPORTANT TO COMPLETELY SEAL THE MOTOR. Coating the motor casing with enamel paint and or trying to seal the motor with a silicone sealant, ONLY DELAYS MOISTURE and CONDENSATION from entering the motor cavity.
The best method, we have been told, is to APPLY SILICONE to the MOTOR CONNECTIONS and USING a TWO- PART MARINE EPOXY. APPLY TWO of THREE HEAVY COATS to the MOTOR CASING and or the GEARBOX.
Waterman Industries Trap Hauler Recommendations
As those of us who make our living on or around the water are aware, fighting corrosion problems in electrical systems is often a never-ending problem. We are giving you these recommendations with the hopes of minimizing the inconveniences of costly down time.
Wiring Recommendations:
When you install your electric trap hauler we recommend that you use the following wiring guidelines:
1). Use a multistrand marine grade copper battery cable.
2). For ½ hp and ¾ hp motors use #4 battery cable if runs are less than 10 feet . If longer than 10 feet use #2 battery cable.
For 1 HP motors use #2 battery cable if runs are less than 10 feet. If longer than 10 feet use #0 Battery Cable.
At your battery terminal connections use a protecting sealer to prevent corrosion.
Caution
Never operate your trap hauler with a weak battery.
This can permanently damage your motor winding.
Motor Corrosion RecommendationsTo reduce the possibility of corrosion in your motor there are several options that can be used. These are the ones that we recommend.
If you have chosen to purchase a sidewinder model it has already, by its design, been isolated from direct contact with spray of water run-off but can be vulnerable to condensation. When mounting your sidewinder it would be best to seal the bottom perimeter of the box and any penetrations made for wiring with silicon.
If you have chose to purchase our trap hauler with stainless steel backing plate it is likely that your mounting requirements have left the motor exposed to the elements. It is important to completely seal the motor. Painting your motor with enamel paint, or trying to seal it with silicone may only delay the moisture and condensation form entering the motor cavity. Often a partial seal may trap more water than it keeps out. The best method, which we have been told of, is to apply silicone to the motor connections and then with a two-part marine epoxy paint apply tow or three heavy coats to the entire gearbox and motor.
CAUTION
Never cover your trap hauler with a tarp or cover between trips or in the off season. This will create the effect of a sauna and will cause corrosion if your motor is not completely sealed.
